ACTION ALERT: Urgent Support Needed, MIGRANT WORKERS IN SOUTH KOREA FACING MASSIVE CRACKDOWN, ARREST, DEPORTATION AND SUPPRESSION
May we also strongly request you to participate in the Internationally Coordinated protest action to be held in front of Korean Embassies/Consulates in your country. We are suggesting you to join us on the simultaneous rally on the 26th of June.
Dear Friends,
Warm Greetings from Korea.
We would like to seek your support.
Equality Trade Union-Migrants Branch (ETU-MB), a union of migrants from different nationalities affiliated with the KCTU) is currently holding series of protest actions since March to oppose the on-going suppression and impending crackdown and deportation of migrant workers in South Korea. A sit-down protest is being held since April 28 by the members of the ETU-MB inside the Myedong Cathedral in Seoul to express opposition on the deportation policy of the Korean government to flush-out undocumented migrants and the suppression of migrants rights but the Police and the Immigration strongly harassing and threatening the members of the Union.
Similar protest actions at the South Korean Consulate/Embassy are also held in the Philippines, Hong Kong, Canada and Bangladesh last May 3, and 7.
Due to the series of mass-actions conducted by the ETU-MB with the Struggle Alliance with the local Korean workers, and the International protests abroad, the planned crackdown by the government was temporarily stopped. But we are anticipating a violent attack and a massive and intensive crackdown immediately after the World Cup ends. Please read the attached document or you can open our homepage for more background information on the Migrant workers struggle in Korea. http://www.base21.org/base21hot/migrant.html
The ETU-MB and the Struggle Alliance are up to intensify protest actions. This coming June 16 Sunday, we are going mobilize thousands of migrants and Koreans to demand Legalization and to oppose the impending crackdown.
Abroad, we are trying to seek your support to join us in protest to exert more pressures. Attached is the copy of the Struggle Declaration in support for our demands.
