A former Israeli minister of education has castigated Israels
discriminatory laws against non-Jewish citizens, arguing that Israel
was adopting an essentially Nazi-like approach toward the
Palestinian people.
The Israeli paper Maariv on Sunday quoted Shulamit Aloni, who was
Minister of Education between 1993-1995, as saying during a lecture in
Haifa on Friday that minister of the interior Eli Yeshai was
effectively applying the Nuremberg Laws on non-Jewish citizens in
Israel.
Aloni, who headed the secular Meretz party for several years, pointed
out that non-Jews in Israel didnt have any constitutional protection
against institutionalized discrimination as they were not recognized as
full citizens of the Jewish state.
She also castigated Israeli occupation and apartheid in the West Bank
and Gaza Strip, saying Israeli apartheid was even more insidious than
anything done by the defunct South African apartheid regime.
Many Israeli religious leaders repeatedly criticized Aloni for her
liberal views and opposition to Israeli persecution of Palestinians.
