Around half a million Yemenis hit the streets of capital Sana¡¯a Thursday to protest the Zionist occupation force¡¯s war of annihilation against the Palestinian people.
The demonstrators also rejected any military action against Iraq or interfering in its internal affairs and demanded an end to the Iraqi people¡¯s suffering as a result of the 12 years long siege.
Abdullah bin Hussein Al-Ahmar, parliament speaker and leader of the main opposition party (Islah), Dr. Abdul Karim Al-Iryani, political adviser to the president and secretary of the ruling general people¡¯s party in addition to leaders of the socialist party, unionist Nasserite party, socialist Baath Arab party and representatives of various organizations and sectors and Palestinian factions in Yemen were at the forefront of the march.
Participants chanted slogans denouncing American war threats against Iraq and condemning Zionist terrorist crimes against the Palestinian people.
Al-Ahmar delivered a statement charging the Zionist lobby in the USA of encouraging war despite international appeals and popular demonstrations in various world areas.
He affirmed importance of continued peaceful marches to denounce the American-British war threats and unlimited American support of the Zionist state ¡°which is daily practicing murder, destruction and sabotage in lines of the Palestinian people¡±.
The participants agreed on a statement in their name expressing the Yemeni masses¡¯ concern towards Zionist aggressions and the mobilization of fleets and armies in the Arab gulf area.
It asked the UN Security Council to shoulder its responsibility in achieving security and stability in the world and handling the situation in the region in a way ensuring international peace.
The statement lashed out at the American position ignoring Zionist practices in occupied Palestine.
Last week the opposition parties organized a similar demonstration to express solidarity with the Palestinian and Iraqi peoples. However, an agreement was reached with the ruling party to organize a huge demonstration in coordination with security bodies because the political conditions in the country could not allow spontaneous marches.
