A Palestinian political expert has dismissed declarations by the Bush Administration that it was interested in fostering democracy in Iraq as "a big lie."
Manuel Hassasian, vice-President of Bethlehem University, said in a lecture at the Orthodox Club in Ramallah Monday that the talk about Democracy in the Arab world by the Bush Administration was only propagandistic in nature.
"They (the Americans) have always supported despotic and tyrannical regimes, the Americans don't really care about fostering democracy in the Arab world "..they only care about securing Israel and oil."
Hassasian said there were three strategic goals of the Anglo American aggression on Iraq: containment of Iran and Iraq, creating a pro-American alliance in the region, and resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict to Israel's satisfaction.
