Governor of the Rafah city, Majid Al-Agha, has declared his city a disaster area after Zionist occupation forces razed thirty civilian houses rendering its 47 families homeless in a very cold, rainy weather.

Hundreds of Palestinians were without shelter after the demolition amidst a cold and rainy weather that has been hitting the region for the past few days.

Agha yesterday said that the occupation forces had leveled 30 houses in Block-C in Rafah, explaining that two of those houses were dynamited while the rest were destroyed using giant bulldozers.

He pointed out that the procedure led to severe damage to scores of buildings neighboring the two blasted houses.

He quoted the districts engineering department as saying that 467 houses were demolished in Rafah alone by the occupation forces since eruption of the Aqsa intifada in September 2000 up to date.

The governor elaborated that 562 Palestinian families were rendered homeless as a result grouping 3565 citizens.

Meanwhile 2340 houses were partially destroyed mostly located on the border strip with Egypt and near to Israeli military positions and Jewish settlements.

UNRWA sources said that occupation troops had devastated 31 houses in recent military operations including 21 wholly demolished and 10 others partially destroyed while various material damages were inflicted on 46 other houses all in Bock-C.
