The suspected development of nuclear weapons in the DPR is a grave danger to peace in the Far East. "Kim Dae-jung calls for South Korea to take the leading role in resolving the North Korea nuclear issue", the December 27th headline of Korea Herald reads.

But the truth is right now S. Korea can't resolve anything regarding this issue because it is powerless to do so. Kim Jong-Il only wants to discuss this issue with the US, because he believes that the US is the primary "occupation power" in S. Korea and as a voice without any weight, S. Korea's input is completely redundant. "There is no need for any third party to meddle on the nuclear issue on the peninsula", Rodong Sinmun stated in the WPK daily during the last week of December.

Many South Koreans see the presence of US troops here as the main obstacle to peace on the peninsula. And for decades, North Korean leadership has said the same. And since the beginning of strong anti USFK protests (which have occurred even in the US), you can hear more and more voices calling for the withdrawal of all US troops from Korea. "If America's strategic goal is to stop North Korea from becoming an Asian arsenal of terror, this is what it should do: begin withdrawing US troops from South Korea" says a comment in the New York Times, Dec. 26.

So, let them go! (And we won't have to demand the changing of the SOFA anymore! And no tragic accidents like that of last June will ever happen again!)

And Kim Jong-Il will have no reason to refuse to deal with S. Korea, China and other neighbouring countries.
