Palestinian Authority¡¯s health minister, Dr. Ahmed Al-Sheebi, has affirmed that 39 Palestinians were killed at the hands of Zionist occupation forces in the Palestinian lands over the period of last week. He pointed out that 11 children were among them.

Al-Sheebi said on Friday, January 31, to the arabic daily Al Quds al Arabi, that in the same period more than 200 Palestinians were wounded seriously. The minister accused the Zionist occupation forces of escalating savage military aggression and of storming Palestinian cities and refugee camps committing crimes against Palestinian women and children.

Occupation forces demolished houses, arrested hundreds of people, fired missiles and bullets in abundance at civilian houses, he said, pointing to the Zaitun massacre in Gaza and the incursion into Jenin.

Sheebi said that occupation troops were still blocking movement of ambulance vehicles, which impeded medical teams¡¯ attempt to rescue the wounded who lost a lot of blood as a result.

He noted that 74 Palestinians were killed since the beginning of January 2003, adding that the occupation soldiers mutilated the bodies of nine of them. He also said that the number of seriously wounded had reached more than 700 in that same month.

The minister warned of worsening health conditions in the Palestinian lands as a result of the Zionist dangerous escalation that targeted even innocent civilians and children.

Sheebi appealed to the Red Cross, WHO and UNICEF to interfere and end that serious escalation. He also asked the UN Secretary General, the quartet committee, the international community, the Security Council and the Arab health ministers to immediately provide international protection for the unarmed Palestinian people.
