Students sneaked into Yongsan U.S. military base in central Seoul to stage an anti-American protest on Thursday, the eve of a major rally to mark the first anniversary of a traffic accident.

The 14 college students, members of Hanchongryeon (Korean Federation of Student Councils) climbed over the fence into the base housing headquarters of the U.S. Forces Korea. They chanted anti-U.S. slogans before being rounded up by military police, South Korean activists and the U.S. military said.

The incident took place a day before activists plan to rally in central Seoul to commemorate the first anniversary of the deaths of two 13-year-old girls crushed by a U.S. army vehicle.

The arrested students were handed over to the South Korean police.
Several days before Roh Moo-hyon announced that ¡°violations against the public order¡± would be punished severely.

The supporters of the students published a press statement demanding:
Stop threatening North Korea with war!
Stop spreading the conspiracy to strengthen the military force!
Stop selling weapons!
Withdrawal of the US troops - as the main obstacle for peace - out off Korea!

Thursday, June 12 a group of 14 Hanchongryeon (Korean Federation of Student Councils) members entered the Yongsan barracks of USFK (United States Forces Korea).

By military police they were immediately arrested. So they got only the possibility to shout some slogans to remember the death of Hyo-soon and Mi-seon, the schoolgirls killed one year before by armored US military vehicle and demanding the withdrawal of USFK.
