An international site scored a victory in the struggle against sexual harassment.
Jinbonet hosts the 'anti Kang-Chulgu' homepage on our server (http://antikcg.jinbo.net). Kang-Chulgu, who is the vice president of the KBS labor union (KBS is one of the biggest Broadcasting Systems in Korea), made a sexual attack on his colleagues several years ago. This problem has been pointed out many times by several activists, including injured women, but the KBS labor union didn't take any action.

Jinbonet hosts the 'anti Kang-Chulgu' homepage on our server (http://antikcg.jinbo.net). Kang-Chulgu, who is the vice president of the KBS labor union (KBS is one of the biggest Broadcasting Systems in Korea), made a sexual attack on his colleagues several years ago. This problem has been pointed out many times by several activists, including injured women, but the KBS labor union didn't take any action.
So the victims made a request to 'The 100 Person Committee' to support and help them. ('The 100 Person Committee' is a coalition that fights against sexual violence among social activists.) The 100 Person Committee publicly disclosed the case on the Internet. They created an online forum on Jinbonet to discuss Sexual harassment between social activists. After that, Kang-Chulgu sued the injured women and the 100 Person Committee for Libel. The case is under examination now.
In response to this, 21 groups created the Coalition Against Sexual Violence. In response to censorship threats, Jinbonet asked international solidarity groups GreenNet (United Kingdom), C2O (Australia) and JCA (Japan) to host the web site in their countries. They accepted our request and we safely moved the Anti Kang Chul-gu homepage abroad.
The trial was held on May 11, and the decision of the court will be made on June 8. After the trial, the situation changed rapidly. The National Union of Media Workers (NUMW) announced that they removed Kang Chul-gu from the Union. NUMW also formed a fact-finding committee for Kang Chul-gu's sexual harassment. And many other progressive groups, for example, NGOs and Unions wrote solidarity messages in support of the union's decision. This struggle is not finished yet, but this case caused real changes. Jinbonet appreciates the international organizations - GreenNet, C2O, JCA. In the future, we hope to see many more similar examples of international solidarity.
