(Seoul, Korea) -- The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU), the nation's largest umbrella labor group, urged the government to implement the five day working system and to release Dan Byong-ho, president of KCTU, in nationwide rallies that simeultaneously occurred in thirteen provincial areas.

In downtown Seoul, KCTU unionists protested near the government complex. They argued that the government arrest of President Dan is a clear indication that Korean militant workers have been criminalized and targeted for repression.

After the street demonstration, KCTU unionists marched to Myongdong
Cathedral to publicize the absurd injustice of President Dan's case.

Meanwhile, KCTU announced that it will launch a "Free Dan" committee on October 16th. An alliance of progressive civic and religious groups will pressure the government to release President Dan by organizing international support for his freedom.
