President Kim Dae-jung yesterday outlined ways of uprooting corruption in society in a meeting with Cabinet ministers and his secretaries at Chong Wa Dae.

``A thorough pursuit of the market economy will sever collusive ties between those in power and businesses. In addition, a more bold removal of outdated regulations will also pave the way for the dissolution of corruption,'' Kim said during a luncheon meeting with all Cabinet members and his secretaries on the occasion of the second anniversary of his administration

Kim also said the government must create an environment where civil servants work in a creative and voluntary way.

Kim said he and his administration have many tasks to achieve before being basked in the praise over what was achieved in the past two years.

``First of all, Korea has many practices and customs which must be reformed,'' Kim said. ``Economic reform has been achieved, but we must complete the restructuring in a qualitative way.''

He also noted his administration must do more to attract much more foreign investment. ``We must improve the investment climate here and the people must be persuaded to understand the importance of foreign investment in motoring the Korean economy,'' according to the President.

He said following the economic crisis, the income gap has widened between the rich and the poor, which the government must alleviate through the implementation of his productive welfare policies.
