The Community Chest of Korea, a charity foundation, held a 4.5-kilometer walk race at the Olympic Park in southeastern Seoul in order to raise funds for the underprivileged.
The event was called the ``Hope 2000 Walk Race,'' which was intended to bring hope and help to needy persons in the new millennium.
The event, sponsored by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, was participated in by 2,000 citizens, disabled persons, orphans, welfare experts, volunteers and government officials.
Those participants donated 4,500 won each to the charity foundation.
``We organized the race in a bid to help citizens share the pains of the poor, disabled and underprivileged and enhance the importance of fund-raising for them,'' said a representative of Community Chest.
