(Seoul, Korea) -- Korean civic groups are in the midst of a protest campaign against Japanese prime minister Junichiro Koizumi's planned visit to Seoul next week.

The "Headquarters For Correcting Japanese Textbooks's Distortion of Korea" said in a press statement that the Korean people have expressed their anger at the Japanese government for adopting history textbooks that have whitewashed its colonial past and crimes against the Korean people. They also condemned Prime Minister Koizumi's visit to the Yaskuni Shrine and his refusal to apologize, despite ceaseless calls by Koreans for him to do so.

In the meantime, Korean civic groups said they will begin a one-person protest at the government complex. Their message is clear: "No visit to Korea by Koizumi will be allowed if a promise to correct the textbooks is not achieved."
