Most countries on the globe are heading toward democracy.
One of the important principles of democracy is equality. On the earth where we live, is equality realized?
In the global village, each country and each race can't be equal. ¡®Global village¡¯means that countries and races around the world have many thing in common. However, a¡®Global village¡¯is impossible in practice. Although many countries seem to be building Global village behind the scenes, their true motivation is profit. If an Israeli citizen commits a crime during his stay in a foreign country, he may be repatriated. An old Israeli man committed a crime during his stay in America and he was convicted. However, he returned to Israel without being punished in America according to the law of Israel. In this way, jurisdiction of equality is the basis of legal problems between countries. Despite the fact that every cosmopolitan person knows this, inequality remains in the world.
Since ancient times, in the East, man has had predominance over woman. The most representative example of this is seen with the inequality of the sexes.
In the past, Orientals thought that men were noble and women were humble. So men were exposed to opportunities that woman were not. They had worked in different fields. Men were seen as a credit to their family and worked outside of his home. He spent his time studying and perusing personal interests. Woman did not recognize that they were experiencing inequality at that time. The situation in Korea has progressed little. The way they think has not improved at all in some ways.
Another problem in the East is the tendency that people have to judge other by their education level. In Korea and Japan, most people have a tendency to judge all of someone by there educational back-ground. In Korea, a student is preparing for an examination to try to enter Seoul University, Japanese students study for years to enter Dong-Kyoung University. Generally speaking people prefer to have a University education. Each person has different abilities, so we can't judge someone because of a poor educational background.
Do you think there are no problems in Western countries? It is unlikely. A representative example of inequality in the west is racism. In America, there is an organization called the KKK. They have a harsh white supremacy policy stating, "Harm the colored races." Another example is racial discrimination. In the past, America was a country in which racial discrimination was more serious than in other countries. Slavery was outlawed after the Emancipation Proclamation by Abraham Lincoln. But, complications between blacks and whites still exist today. Some blacks have a hard time getting jobs and receiving education.
In the Republic of South Africa, there was apartheid, an official racial discrimination policy. Blacks could not be on buses with whites, and restaurants were segregated into two sections, one for whites and the other for blacks.
Serious racial discrimination problems are apt to take place in heterogeneous rather than homeogenous nation states. Some countries still have racial discrimination dictating people should live in separate places because of skin color. The countries which have multi-racial societies but discriminate against some races must change their policy from racial discrimination and raise people's consciousness. Inequality among countries can be traced throughout history by looking at various imperialistic regimes. For example, Japan conquered Korea in search of national profit. They tried to absorb Korea's mind culture and language. In this way the inequality of opportunity began between the strong and the weak.
Therefore many nations and people of the world are more apt to belong to an oppressed class rather than the small elite class. Humans are born having natural rights, but why should some be discriminated against when others aren't? As we know it's not correct. A wall has been built so high that we can't jump over it. The Republic of South Africa example. Mandeala, black, and head of the ANC was elected President of South Africa. The inauguration of Mandala gave hope to many blacks and his inauguration can be seen as an example of the changes taking place in the world today. Little by little some people are trying to break down racial
inequality and discrimination. In Africa, African National Committee was established long ago to reduce racial inequality.
Inequality due to race, education, nation, or sex will not disappear until people think of others, first, as human beings.
