'99 Min-jung Dae-hoi(rally of people) was held at Ye-yoi-do(?)@G55) park
on Nov. 14 for the defense of 'the right to live, protection of economic
sovereignty, abolition of national security law, reduction of the labor
time, and solution of the department of the farmhouse'. About twenty five
thousand people participated in the rally of people including fifty-one
groups of all social standings and foreign laborers. After previous
night's event and the rally of laborers of the nation the morning of
November 14th, the rally of the people was completed. Eleven large demands
at the rally of people were chosen with the assertion that they should be
realized before the new millenium comes. The specific contents of the
demands were to stop layoffs, guarantee the rights of the poor, the
abolition of the national security law, opposition of privatization of
public enterprise, revolution of education and press, innovation of
politics and conglomorates, integration of medical insurance and so on. In
other words the demand for the whole revolution is intensively described
as the resistance against the neo-liberalism.

The distinguished things in the rally of people can be seen as two
following points. First, pains and aches of the weak in the society are
deepening. As a result, the resistance of the weak, and desperate voices
of the people is turning into a cold reality. Second, in this dehumanized
development which doesn't have any consideration for the pains of the
weak, the weak, as min-jung(people) will strengthen the overall struggle
through people's solidarity like this rally.

In the address of the rally, Dan Byung-ho, chief of the Korean
Confederation of Trade Unions(KCTU), said "We will keep and strengthen the
struggle against the power toward society in which basic justice and right
of human is guarded, and toward the world in which people enjoy the right
to live as humans more equally."
