The Korean Peninsula Energy Development Organization (KEDO) will begin construction on two light-water nuclear reactors in North Korea Feb. 15, an official of the Office of Planning for the Light-Water Reactor Project said.
The preliminary site preparation will be completed by Feb. 14, the official said.
The Turnkey Contract (TKC) signed between KEDO and the Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO) last December also took effect Thursday.
KEDO will provide KEPCO with 71.2 billion won ($63 million) for the site preparation and 67 billion won for the construction of the reactors. The Korea Export and Import Bank and the Japan Bank of International Cooperation have recently indicated that the fund is available anytime.
