No War, Just Peace

Translated by S Kim (irkim1@hotmail.com)

581 NGOs have started public demonstrations for a peaceful world. On November 8th, NGOs held a press interview and announced a signature demonstration in Seoul. This activity was the result of solidarity among Korean NGOs for peace activity after September 11th.

Above all, the urge of Korean NGOs in the current situation (e.g. uninterrupted air strikes and the death of refugees) was reflected in this demonstration. Action Network wondered about the revenge of U.S. government, when it has not presented evidence as to the background of this terror. Action Network suspected this activity of the U.S. government was connected to securing resources in Middle East. Mr. Jung, the president of the National Farmers' Union, judged that this war would profit U.S. defense industries in the end.

Action Network has been against the financial assistance ($1.5 billion) and the dispatch of troops by the Korean government to this war. Joint Practice also objected to the dispatch of troops by the Japanese government through the establishing of a special act. This dispatch could be a threat to the peace of the Korean Peninsula.

Action Network made their position clear through the opinion of formation. Action Network also proclaimed that the activists of the Korean peninsula, Asia, and the world would form a solid organization for 'No war, Just Peace'. Mr. Choi, the secretary general of the Korean federation of environmental movements, said, "We have expected the 21st Century would be the century of the peace. But the revenge of the American government frustrated our expectation. This damages the people of America and Afghanistan." He stressed the need for solidarity in peace activity. After the interview, the activists of NGOs participating in Action Network held the ' No War, Just Peace' signatures demonstration in Seoul.

Action Network will proceed with their program (e.g. the money raising for the Afghanistan refugees, "No war" public demonstration, the fund-raising concert for Afghanistan refugees, the opposition demonstration to dispatching of Korean troops)
