Seoul Metropolitan Subway Workers leading public sector workers strike Seventeen KPSU-affiliated unions, including Seoul Subway Trade Union, Dacom Trade Union, Korea Electricity Safety Corp. Trade Union and so on,
have launched simultaneous strikes. Around 2,1000 workers joined the strikes. Now around 6,000 workers of Seoul Subway Trade Union are staying in Seoul National University for preparing the long-term struggle. From the 21th of April, three unions including the National
Scientific and Techonological Research Workers Union will also join the strike waves and on the 26th, the strike of Korea Telecom Trade Union wil give strong momentum to the struggle. KTTU have decided to launch a
strike through by the vote of 75.6% of the unionists from the 18th to the 19th of April.
* KPSU's six demands
- Reduction of working hours
- Maintaining the public-good orientation of government-managed corporations, and withdrawal of their selling-off to Chaebol, or foreign capital
- Withdrawal of annual salary system
- Withdrawal of the worsened retirement pay system and reduction of welfare benefits
- Direct Bargaining with government on wages
- Trade Union's participation in corporation management
