"We have no room stepping back. We will die if you push us just a little more. Please don't push us! Please
understand us! This is a last choice we can do. Please you step back for us before we die." This is the painful outcries of Korean labour.
Power of labour is gathered at Seoul station in May 1, 1999. They raise their voice in anger with insisting 'reducing of working hours', 'opposition of the burden of economic restructuring on workers' and 'opposition of layoffs'. The Korean Confederation of Trade Union(KCTU), organized the rally, ask government for stabilize employment.
The unemployment rate in the country hit 8.1 percent, three times the level before the country slipped into a severe economic crisis in 1997. This demostration is their life. There were about 50,000 demostrators and it was hard to walk around. They cry 'fighting against management and government' as singing people's song like 'song of like-minded person' repeatedly. University student, including Kyungpook National University(KNU) was also participate this 'Labor Day demonstration'. They said, "We will be a labour in the future, and my father, my mother and my sister are also labour. This is our problem."
Before this demostration, '4.30 curtural event' was also held titled 'confrontation'(between labour and management) at Sungkyun university in Aprial 30. A mass rally marched from Seoul station to Myongdong Cathedral. Among them, some people march with taking their children by the hand.
Most Korean is labour. Center of Korea is not politician and Chaebol management but labour. Center is shaking. They are in the danger of falling. I want to ask you, "Who is right?" , "Which way is right?".
