FKTU Elects Mr. Lee Nam-soon as New President
The Federation of Korean Trade Unions (FKTU) held an extraordinary national congress on Friday, May 26, 2000 to elect Mr. Lee Nam-soon, the incumbent secretary general, as its 18th president.

The Federation of Korean Trade Unions (FKTU) held an extraordinary national congress on Friday, May 26, 2000 to elect Mr. Lee Nam-soon, the incumbent secretary general, as its 18th president. Mr. Lee was placed second after Mr. Lee Kwang-nam, the acting president, at the first vote, but beat him by 28 votes in a runoff election, getting 333 votes out of total 638 votes.
The new FKTU president was born in Hwasung, Kyunggido in 1952 and attended Kunkook University majoring in public administration. After working many years at Cho Hung Bank, where he served as president of the trade union from 1981 to 1985, Mr. Lee Nam-soon served president of the Korean Federation of Bank & Financial Workers' Unions in 1992. He became the secretary general of the FKTU in 1997 and is also a board member of the Korea International Labour Foundation (KOILAF).
