The Ministry of Justice is checking migrant workers who work at entertainment shops from late December, an official answer document sent to JCMK says. This answer was sent after being asked by JCMK if there would be a fine exemption period for undocumented migrant workers who would voluntarily depart Korea. MOJ stated in its response sent to JCMK on December 16, that there would be no ¡®amnesty¡¯ period in the near future as this had already been done from from January to June this year.
But an official of MOJ said that if the undocumented workers would go to the immigration offices, there would be no penalty from December 20. It means that an unofficial amnesty period will be practiced until the beginning of next year. It is recommended that if an undocumented worker wants to depart Korea without penalty, they should visit the nearest counseling center first.
