JCMK, Hold Korea & Japan Joint Rally
JCMK has spreaded local campaign named 'International Joint Action Day concerning Anti-War, Peace and Security of Migrants' Rights'.
Migrant Workers' Center in Gwanju, a member of JCMK, opened the campaign for 'Abolishment of Trainee System, Acquiring Labor Permit and Opposing discrimination against migrant workers' in Geumnamro, Gwanju on May 18.
On May 19, the similar campaign held in Ilsan and the Ansan Migrant Shelter also had a rally at the same date.
The participants of the rally in Ansan urged 'Abolishment of Trainee System, Acquiring Labor Permit' and protested against migrants' embassy which avoid to reissue undocumented worker's passport. They also conducted a campaign to collect signatures for opposing discrimination against migrant workers.
JCMK plan to hold the 'Korea, Japan Joint Public Rally on International Joint Action Day concerning Anti-War, Peace and Security of Migrants Rights' in Dongnimmun Park, Seoul at 3 p.m. on June 2, 2002. JCMK will point out improvement on migrant workers' policy and ratifying UN Migrant Workers' Convention in the rally.
[Major Demands and Slogans]
- Abolish Trainee System, a Modern Day Slavery!
- Grant an Amnesty and Work Permit to Undocumented Migrant Workers
- Enact laws on the legal employment of migrant workers and the protection of their rights.
- Ratify "International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families"


ETU-MB, Continue Sit-In rally in Myeongdong Cathedral
The Equality Trade Union Migrant Branch(ETU-MB) continued to hold a sit-in rally in front of Myeongdong Cathedral. They have demanded for the sake of freedom of assembly and association, annihilation of massive crackdown, and achievement of working visa.
It is deplorable that because migrant workers in Maseok-Seongsaeng Industrial zone who joined the rally held on April 7 will be a target of crackdown by Immigration after May 25 the last date of Voluntary Reporting.
Second rally of ETU-MB was dispelled because MOS took a hard line after April 1st migrant workers' rally, whoever migrant workers join a rally will crackdown. ETU-MB plan to open a cultural event for migrant workers' struggle so-called "Give us working right" in Yonsei University on May 30.

HRSWM, Open Workshop
The Human Rights Solidarity for Women and Migration will be held a workshop in Gumi Catholic Workers' Cultural Center on June 5. The workshop will be divided into 2 parts. In part 1, the participants are going to analyze the situation after voluntary reporting and their countermeasure.
In part 2, each centers will introduce the counseling cases of having difficult and notable problem and discuss to solve the case. Especially they will talk about prediction and planing strategy on infringement of migrant workers' human rights in their registered company.
