Catholics called for the abolishment of National Security Law with great eagerness.

"The Catholic Solidarity for the Abolishment of National Security Law (the Catholic Solidarity is represented by three priests including Father Kim Young Jin)" announced the "Declaration of 2000 catholics for the abolishment of National Security Law" in a press interview at the Catholic Hall.

2059 catholics-375 clergymen, 493 religious persons, and 1191 laymen - participated in the declaration. Participants contended that the "National Security Law is a villainous law that has seriously infringed upon the declaration of the will and the freedom of conscience" and that "the movement for abolishing the National Security Law will become fodder for spirit of the Great Delight Year, a celebration of liberation and salvation" The Catholic Solidarity criticized the communistic color of the Grand National Party.

They asserted that the "Assemblymen of the Grand National Party should be repentant of their past faults and modestly receive the public will of the nation" and "The National Congress for New Politics and The United Liberal Democrats should not waste time with ideological disputes along party lines and instead should work towards abolishing the National Security Law so that no innocent man should ever be punished"

The Catholic Solidarity plans to initiate a signature-collecting campaign. Signatures will be collected after mass and at bus and subway stations and department stores.

Kwak Han Wang, manager of the "Committee for Justice and Peace in Inchon Parish," said "At present, we have not cooperated with other religious groups, however, once we have the results of the Catholics, we will unite our efforts."

After the results from all of the parishes are gathered, the Catholic Solidarity will petition for the National Assembly on September 14th to abolish the National Security Law.
