Internet sites containing violent and obscene contents provided from a foreign network server, for people within Korea, in Korean language can now be under restriction, stated Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC) on March 22. The MIC is constructing the database that will rate the contents to prevent teenagers from being exposed to unsuitable information.

The MIC will thoroughly search for violent and obscene contents in major portal sites along with any kind of unsound information roaming in cyber space and work on settling the rating system.

In addition, the ministry is planning to supply the already-made filtering software to the poorer bracket in the society and community centers for free. This is to help parents and teenagers and the concerned groups to easily use the rating service.

Private software companies and PC manufacturers are to cooperate with the ministry to help spread the use of the filtering software. Some civic groups concerning juvenile deliquiincy will also take part in the campaign for its uses.
